At least 14 people were killed in an explosion in Davao City, Philippines.

Davao City is the third most populous city in the Philippines and is located on the island of Mindanao.
The explosion, which occurred on Friday at a night market, injured dozens more according to the Philippines News Agency.

According to the region 11 director of the Philippine National Police, Manuel Gaerlan, 10 people died at the scene and two others at the hospital. Three others are currently in critical condition.

Davao Doctors Hospitals medical director, Noel Vilanueva, reported that four patients were brought to his facility and that one required surgery for metal fragments in their leg.

All of the victims of the explosions are reported as having been adults.

Davao City authorities are attempting to determine the cause of the explosion and although the city is not in lockdown, there is an alcohol ban in place and authorities have asked that people remain in their homes.

"In case there are other attacks," responded Gaerlan when asked about the public call for vigilance and cautionamong Davao City citizens.

A maximum police presence as well as armed forces are securing the area. There are also police checkpoints set up throughout Davao City.

Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, who is originally from Davao City, has been reported as being on his way directly to the blast site.

His son, Paolo Duterte, who is currently the vice mayor of Davao, estimated that 60 people were injured in the blast during an interview with CNN.
