Apple's new 2018 MacBook Pro demonstrates a faster GPU and an unchanged design.

Today, Apple begins shipping the new 2018 refresh of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro. The new machines offer configurations with 8th-generation Intel processors and more cores than beforea maximum of six cores on the 15-inch model (compared to four in last year's models) and four in the 13-inch model (compared to two).

New configurations translate to faster performance for many use cases.
Additionally, maximum SSD capacity is doubled, with a first-time DDR4 RAM,

Borrowing features from the iMac Pro and the iPad Pro, the T2 chip and True Tone, respectively, the new 2018 MacBook Pro features a revised butterfly keyboard, the third generation of the design Apple introduced in 2016 (the revision is a little more significant this time around).

The basic design of the MacBook Pro remains unchanged, aside from the notable adjustment to the keyboard.

The top configuration of the 15-inch model includes an 8th-generation, six-core Intel Core i9 CPU clocked at 2.9GHz. Six-core Intel Core i7 processors are also options. The 2017 iteration of the MacBook Pro featured DDR3 memory with a maximum configuration of 16GB.

The new MacBook Pros will ship with macOS High Sierra, with an option to be upgraded to Mojave.

Apple now offers leather sleeves for both MacBook Pro sizes, similar in the previous styling. Presently, the three color options include Saddle Brown, Midnight Blue, and black.

An Apple-sanctioned eGPU solution has been intergrated. Apple says it worked with Blackmagic Design (a company known for high-end hardware products for photographers, video editors, and others) to develop a different approach to eGPU enclosures. The included GPU is an 8GB Radeon Pro 580.

While Apple's focus is currently on Touch Bar-equipped models, it will continue to offer at least the 13-inch MacBook Pro without a Touch Bar, with the intent to market it to education customers in particular
